There are eleven Charles University canteens around Prague which are open during lunch hours every workday. The Czech word for student’s canteen is “menza”. Lunch is “oběd” and usually consists of soup (polévka) and a warm main meal (hlavní chod). You can take a dessert or salad as well.

The Department of Physical Education of the Faculty of Science provides many different sports opportunities. There are regular courses, events, and a number of clubs you can join.

The courses are concluded by either Zkouška (abbreviation Zk, free translation “exam”) or by Zápočet (Z, “credit”). The difference here is in the requirements to pass the course. Zkouška is mostly harder, it can be oral or written examination (multiple-choice, essay, open questions, etc., sometimes electronic) or combined, but then you can earn more credits (ECTS). On the contrary, zápočet should require less from the student, sometimes it is only some mandatory attendance, other times homework, or essays during the semester.
As an exchange student at CU, you can borrow books from the Charles University libraries. There are some other libraries in Prague, which request registration and payment of a small yearly fee — such as the National Library of the CR, the National Technical Library and the Municipal Library of Prague.
